Autumn term

Posted by amanning | Posted in General News | Posted on 01-09-2017

Hello everyone,

I’m really looking forward to meeting you all.

This term our topic is into the forest,  our classroom and learning space features a variety of different aspects to highlight this, including leaves, animals, hideouts and a woodland cottage.

In Science this term we will be looking at what plants and flowers need in order to grow and survive, including a special visit from an alien! Zinnia is an alien from out of space who has requested that the children design a space farm with all they key features needed to plant, grow and harvest food on her planet. We will also dissect a flower in order to detect all the parts of a flower and then look at the pollination process.

In geography we will be looking at maps and directions of our local area and then comparing the differences between urban and rural settings and the activities and landmarks found in them.

In numeracy we will be looking at addition and subtraction facts, using various methods to find the answers to calculations, using reasoning to discuss our answers. In addition to this the children will be practicing their 3x, 5x, 6x, 4x and 8x tables, you can aid your children’s learning experience by visiting reggae beatz times tables,  a fun and active way to learn. (The children learn the dance moves too!)

In Literacy we will looking at settings and character descriptions, speech vocabulary and the language we use to aid these in our writing; furthermore, to engage and enthuse the children’s learning we will be using drama for writing and talk for writing. After that,  we will be looking at the key features of a non-chronological report, after a surprise sighting of the Kingsley Colossus. A rare type of giant who is usually only spotted at night in local woodlands and parks!

We are very lucky to have the  artist Piper come and work in class once a week after the half term. He will be using lots of different medium with the children to create 2d and 3d pieces of art which range from sketching to clay modelling.

I hope that you will try your very best to read 5 times a week. We want to try and move as many of us up on the book bands as possible

Summer term 1

Hello everybody and welcome back to school!

This term our new topic is weather around the world, so our classroom now features its very own pirate bar, beach bar and the Kingsley Crab!

In geography we will be looking at wild weather, and why people choose to go on holiday. We will be comparing different holiday destinations and how their geographical locations affects the weather. If any of you have any holiday photographs or postcards at home, we would love to display them in our classroom!

We have seen some brilliant pieces of home learning and have learnt a lot about the Caribbean islands based on your research, so thank you to all of you who have taken part in that challenge. Another big thank you has to go to those who have designed a school mascot, they look FANTASTIC and Mrs Lane along with the rest of the judges will definitely be finding it difficult to pick the winning drawing…

In numeracy so far, we have been looking at measurement, time and shape. The children have explored the playground and using a trundle wheel have measured the perimeter of different objects.  The children do have a time challenge within the classroom so any additional practice at home may help them to earn some extra Dojo points.

As always, our class have been brilliant with their drama performances in literacy and we are really looking forward to how this helps their writing.

I hope that you have been continuing to practise your times tables at home for our table races and are reading 5 times a week. We want to try and move as many of us up on the book bands as possible 🙂

Any questions, please comment below or visit me in the classroom.

Thank you!

Have a lovely Easter everybody!

You have all worked really hard this term and we have had an extremely busy one too!

We have explored the Roman times and learnt about significant events in history such as Boudicca’s rebellion (the children did a fantastic art piece) the invasion to Britain and the eruption of Vesuvius!  It was lovely to see all the hard work that you all put in when it came to the Kingsley Chronicle Newsroom. The children all worked incredibly hard whether they were news reporters or researchers. With the Roman topic coming to an end it was brilliant to see so many of you making an effort with your outfits for our Roman day!

It was entertaining to see some of your faces during the Roman banquet, especially those of you who tried dates and coffee for the first time! We were very impressed with the soup that you all made, even some of the adults had to have a taster. We hope that you don’t forget the Latin commands from our army practise, you certainly had some convincing faces.

We hope that you have a lovely break, and enjoy the time off! Please make sure you get outside to enjoy the sun… maybe even take a good book with you ready to write a review when you’re back!

Comment on here with anything exciting that your children get upto… we would love to see some photographs!

Thank you!
